Funky Fish Tanks
I came across the image of the television fish tank and decided to see what other types of crazy fish tanks exist today.

“A beautiful portrait of James Dean, made an entirely out different pieces and colors of denim, is now hanging in the hometown of the icon who helped make denim a fashion staple.
Swedish based British artist Denimu, known for his stunning works made out of denim, has collaborated with the James Dean Gallery and CMG Worldwide, the agent of the Estate of James Dean, to create a large mural on the side of Fairmount Antiques in Fairmount, Indiana.”

I came across this awesome package design for socks recently. The packaging is really fun and makes the consumer want to purchase the socks, even though they are just plain, ordinary, white socks. (Sock packaging design by: http://lisashocket.deviantart.com/art/socks-packing-101446182)
Here are some other clever packaging designs that make you want to buy the basic product, despite the fact that you probably already own it:

Kitchen utensils designed by Scanwood, package design by Goodmorning Technology http://www.gmtn.dk/work
“Scanwood is Denmark’s largest manufacturer of wooden kitchen utensils, selling their products in Europe and the Middle East. Scanwood wished to communicate the fact that their products are made through an environmentally friendly process and are of course also made from all natural materials.
By adding the package design a few very simple effects, the Scanwood brand and payoff: Designed in Denmark, made by Nature - comes to life, draws attention to the products and tells the story about sustainability and nature in a modern and appealing fashion.
This branded story is now visible and understandable across all different markets and languages giving the consumer an added experience and a sense of buying a product that grows straight out of the ground.” -http://www.packagingoftheworld.com/2010/03/scanwood.html
After reading “The Biomimic” article from Conscious Choice, it got my thinking about designers I really like and if/how their designs are related to nature.
One jewelry designer who I’m a big fan of is Pamela Love. Her pieces definitely reflect nature, as well as our evolutionary past. A lot of her jewelry incorporates a part of an animal in some way, such as her talon cuff or her crow skull necklace.

I am in love with this boot by Becca Moon. I like how the two different textures look together, and I really like the zipper/snap closure. Check out her other shoes at beccamoon.com.

Once again, Alexander Wang took sportswear to a whole new level for his spring 2012 collection. The two-piece, body-con ensembles are amazing. “Sexy, tribal, racing attire” is the best way to describe them. His placement of sheer fabrics throughout the collection was absolutely perfect. Wang never fails to make the modern girl look “tough” and “sexy” at the same time.
The trailer for The Devil and Daniel Johnston.

If you haven’t yet seen the documentary The Devil and Daniel Johnston, I highly suggest that you do. I first found out about Daniel Johnston through this film and I immediately became fond of him and his works of art.
Johnston is a songwriter and an artist. His songs, such as “Devil Town” and “True Love Will Find You,” have become widely popular and various songs of his have been covered by artists such as Bright Eyes, TV On The Radio, Beach House, and M Ward. You have most likely heard a version of one his songs before and just not realized it. His album, Hi, How Are You?, is one of his most well known due to the shirts depicting the album cover which Kurt Cobain wore frequently.
I was able to see Johnston in concert a year or so ago, and it was definitely an experience to remember. The devil-loving, bipolar Johnston is now quite overweight, a bit more timid, and has the shakes. However, he still managed to play a complete set and hold the attention of everyone in the audience (it was a sold-out event).
Johnston’s drawings are a great representation of himself; they are wild, crazy, and either blasting with color or simply black and white. They represent the two sides of Johnston quite well. I am a big fan of Johnston’s artworks, as well as Johnston himself.
Contemporary art/designs that rock.
